Digitizing the Harry Oster Field Recordings
Thanks to a grant from the Fund for Labor Culture, in 2005 the Arhoolie Foundation was able to digitize and catalog the original
field recordings made by the late Prof. Harry Oster in southwest Louisiana in the 1950s and early 60s. The original reel-to-reel
tapes of various regional vernacular musical traditions were either purchased by Arhoolie Records or were donated to the
Arhoolie Foundation by Mr. Oster's widow. The catalog of these tapes will soon appear on our website.
